Visiting: Ephesus, House of Virgin Mary, Temple of Artemis, Isabey Mosque

Duration: 10 hours

As you walk out of Bodrum Harbour, you will find your professional local guide waiting for you with a name placard, ready to take you on an amazing tour of Selcuk's sights.

Ephesus

The Ancient City of Ephesus was once one of the Roman Empire's largest cities and its ruins are some of the best preserved in the world today. Wander through the Temple of Hadrian, the Great Theater and the Celsius Library, all impressive examples of Roman architecture with their ornate carvings. Your guide will explain the intriguing history of each and there will be time for an optional visit to the Terrace Houses.

House of the Virgin Mary

Offering a fantastic panoramic view over Selcuk and its surrounding area, the House of the Virgin Mary is located on a hilltop near Ephesus and is believed to be where the Mother of Christ lived out her final days. Today it is an important pilgrimage site for people of all faiths who come to pay their respects and pray for good fortune.

Temple of Artemis

Built in the 6th century BC and now one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World is the Temple of Artemis. Today the ruins of its marble columns lie within swamp land not far from the center of Selcuk and are famed for their ornate carvings.

Isabey Mosque

Built in 1374 by Ali, the son of Mushimish al-Damishki, the Isabey Mosque is one of the most impressive examples of a Seljukian style mosque still standing today. It lies just below the St John Basilica and its beautifully carved marble details and mosaics are a fine example of the architecture of the period.

NOTE!

The Terrace Houses section, located within the Ancient City of Ephesus and dating back to the 1st century BC, are not included in the tour price (15 USD per person entrance fee), but a visit is highly recommended. With beautiful mosaics and frescoes, together with a unique clay pip water and heating system, it offers a fascinating insight into the lifestyle of wealthy Romans of the time, particularly in its oldest building, 'The houses of the rich Romans'. In this section there are over 100 stairs so it is not recommend for people with physical disabilities. Allow a minimum of 30 minutes to visit.
